Keep River NP - Day 78, 25/06/2016

This morning we had every intention of getting going early but we gained an hour and a half when we crossed the border and the kids didn't wake until 7.30. It was still cool and we were about to head off when we got chatting to another family who were heading into WA to start their Gibb River Road run, we didn't catch their names but they very kindly donated all of their fruit and veg to us.

We eventually started the Jarnem Loop walk just after 9am and it didn't take us long to complete the 7km track. The scenery here is very picturesque and has very similar rock formations to the Bungle Bungles just on a smaller scale, if you can't get into the Bungles or don't have time I'd recommend coming into the Keep river NP as access is very easy.

We relaxed in camp throughout the hot afternoon and then left for another walk at 3.30 once it started to cool off, this walk was into the Keep River Gorge. The walk follows the Keep River which was pretty dry but we did manage to spot a few fresh water crocodiles in one of the larger pools. At the end of the gorge there is a "living"shelter that the aboriginals used during the wet season and has some art work, middens and grinding stones.

After the walk we got the fire going and cooked up some beautiful creamy peppercorn porterhouse steaks that we picked up in Kununurra. We bought a heap of meat from the one and only butcher in Kununurra and its been excellent quality with great service and free cryovacing (??), we thoroughly recommend them.

Distance Traveled = 17 km
