Anzac Day Weekend - Illaroo Camp ground Yuraygir National Park

Image
2:30am Anzac Day - We dragged ourselves and the kids out of bed to start our 5 hour trek down to Illaroo campground in Yuraygir National Park. We had heard so many great things about this part of the NSW north coast and took the opportunity of a 4 day Anzac day weekend to finally have a look for ourselves. This park operates on a first in first served basis and we were concerned that we would miss out on a campsite given its popularity, all I can say is that I’m glad we did get up in the middle of the night as we got the last spot that would accommodate our group albeit right next to the toilet block… The Illaroo campground is broken into 2 parts (south and north) as well as a group campground that can be booked separately. We stayed in the northern campground which has sites that are suited to camper trailers and camping beside your car and bollarded sections for campers with tents. The facilities on offer are quite good with eco toilets, drinking water and firewood available

After airing down we were soon travelling up the beach and we could see for ourselves how badly this section of coast had been affected by the recent low pressure systems. The beach on Bribie is not normally very wide and I’m glad we were travelling at low tide as there ar
