Anzac Day Weekend - Illaroo Camp ground Yuraygir National Park

2:30am Anzac Day - We dragged ourselves and the kids out of bed to start our 5 hour trek down to Illaroo campground in Yuraygir National Park. We had heard so many great things about this part of the NSW north coast and took the opportunity of a 4 day Anzac day weekend to finally have a look for ourselves. This park operates on a first in first served basis and we were concerned that we would miss out on a campsite given its popularity, all I can say is that I’m glad we did get up in the middle of the night as we got the last spot that would accommodate our group albeit right next to the toilet block…

The Illaroo campground is broken into 2 parts (south and north) as well as a group campground that can be booked separately. We stayed in the northern campground which has sites that are suited to camper trailers and camping beside your car and bollarded sections for campers with tents. The facilities on offer are quite good with eco toilets, drinking water and firewood available for you to purchase at reasonable prices.

After arriving just before 8am we were soon setup and then enjoyed spending time together on the beach and in our camp. We had awesome weather for the 4 days with clear sunny days and cool nights. There is a beach access track and 10km 4wd only drive up the beach to Sandon Village which we didn’t do this time but will definitely have a look next time we are down this way.

Here are some pictures from our stay as you can see we spent a fair bit of time on this awesome beach just relaxing with the kids. I really look forward to coming back here we had a great time.

Trip distance = 820km
Total distance travelled with camper = 5031km
Total number of nights =35
