Darwin to Shady Camp - Day 96, 13/07/2016
It didn't take long to pack up this morning but we weren’t in any rush either and we were on the road just after 10am. Our first stop of the day was at Fogg Dam, we had been told not to bother as the water was very low and it wasn't worth the stop. The water levels were very low but there was still plenty of birds to see and reading about the history of the dam was interesting, after a quick morning tea we made our way to our next stop which was the Window into the Wetlands.
The views from the top of the hill were very nice and the exhibits and information inside kept the kids amused for a little while. We could have spent longer here but we wanted to get onto the Adelaide River Croc Jumping cruise at 1pm so made our way there arriving just after 12.30. We had a fantastic time on the cruise and it was awesome seeing these animals up close, something we will all remember for sometime.
From here we made our way north off the Arnhem Highway towards Shady Camp on the Point Stuart road, about half of which was sealed and the unsealed section was one of the best dirt roads we have driven on. When we arrived at the campground we selected a spot away from the other campers, the area is huge and there weren't many other campers here which suited us fine.
Later in the afternoon we took the fishing rods down to the barrage to try our luck with the Barra and to spot crocs. No luck with the Barra today but we saw plenty of crocs which was cool, there is one particular large male that cruises around we called him Brutus and we all kept our eyes on him.
Just a note for others about fishing restrictions at Shady Camp, no bait and you can only use lures with one single hook, treble hooks and multiple hooks are prohibited here... I wasn't impressed with this as it ruled out just about all of my gear.
Distance Traveled = 181 km
