O'Brien's Creek to Rocky Creek War Memorial - Day 133, 19/08/2016

After a very peaceful nights sleep I emerged from the camper to find dark threatening skies so woke the girls up (they were still sleeping @ 7.30am) and had breakfast then packed up in a hurry. Once back in Mt Surprise we stopped in at the Gem store and the girls had a good look around and bought a few small pieces and we then continued onto Ravenshoe.

The country is starting to change with the scenery becoming much greener and we are starting to climb over ranges which is a nice change to the flat Savannah country we have been in for the last month or so. It wasn't long until we were in beautiful rain forest and we turned off to the Millstream Falls for a quick look around and some lunch. The area around Millstream Falls and Ravenshoe were once used for military training camps in the 1940's and there was some interesting reading here.

Ravenshoe is a nice little town and its claim to fame is Queenslands highest gazetted town, we were out of our essential supplies again so restocked and also grabbed some fruit and veg. We then continued through the tablelands and beautiful green scenery on our way to Atherton where we stopped at the information center to gather some information before continuing onto the free camp at Rocky Creek War Memorial.

This a very popular stop allowing stays of up to 72 hours and has clean flushing toilets and non potable water. This site was used as a field hospital and recuperation site for the Australian defense force during WW2 apparently it was the largest military hospital in the Southern Hemisphere. There is heaps of information here and we have really enjoyed reading and learning about the military history of these parts over the last few days.

Distance Traveled = 256 km
Total distance traveled with camper = 36,664 km
Total number of nights in the camper = 265
