Cooktown to the Lions Den Hotel - Day 137, 23/08/2016

Today we made our way to the iconic Lions Den Hotel which was a very short drive from Cooktown and I think its our shortest drive between camps for the entire trip… On the way we stopped at Black Mountain to have a look at the rock formations, it looks as though someone has piled up thousands of black granite boulders and it was interesting to read about how the mountain was formed.

We arrived at the Lions Den Hotel just after lunch and set up in the unpowered section and then enjoyed our homemade BLT wraps. Our campsite overlooked the river and we walked down and had a swim in the refreshing water. The river has a fair bit of flow to it and the girls really enjoyed floating down through the rapids. Later in the afternoon we ventured up to the bar and had several beers while chatting to other travelers about their journeys. We had heard good and bad reports about the Lions Den Hotel and we are happy to say that we really enjoyed our short stay here and look forward to coming back one day.
