Bitter Springs to St Vidgeons Ruins- Day 110, 27/07/2016
We were excited this morning as we were heading back into some remote country and back onto dirt roads. The first 130 kms of the Roper Highway was single lane sealed road but there were was plenty of road work going on which slowed us a little bit. We then hit the dirt about 50kms before Roper Bar, the road was in pretty good condition with the usual corrugations and the odd patch of bull dust.
We stopped in at Roper Bar to top up diesel and it was the most we have paid for sometime at $2.20 per liter. We then continued on along the Savannah Way where we stopped on the side of the road for a late lunch before continuing on to St. Vidgeons ruins.
Much to our relief we found that no one else was camped here and we found a nice spot overlooking the lagoon. St Vidgeons is a free camp and is huge if there were other campers we could have spread out and still felt like we were all by ourselves. We had a great night and thoroughly enjoyed being back out in the bush, all by ourselves.
Distance Traveled = 253 km
