Karumba to Leichhardts Lagoon - Day 130, 16/08/2016

We didn't have very far to travel today and we slowly packed up, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Karumba and can see why its so popular with retirees. We spoke to quite a few people who stay for 3 or 4 months a year and the majority have been coming here for the last 10 to 15 years.

We stopped in at Normanton to grab a few supplies and I dragged the girls into the information center as I was told that they had a fair bit of information on Burke and Wills and some of the other early explorers who opened up this area. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about these brave men and women and look forward to doing a bit more reading when I get home.

From Normanton it was a short drive to Leichhardts Lagoon, its $8 per adult per night and our kids were free. The campground is spread out along the shores of the lagoon and we managed to get a nice shady spot overlooking the water, its a popular place and it filled up quite a bit as the afternoon went on. Our kids managed to find a couple of great climbing trees which kept them amused all afternoon while Anna and I chilled out and read our books. The lagoon is a bird watchers haven and the we were lucky enough to witness another spectacular sunset over the water. We loved Karumba but it was nice to be back in the bush again with some space around us.
