Simpson Desert - Day 6, Haddon Corner to Birdsville 22/06/2017

I don't think we will come back to Haddon Corner again as both of our last 2 visits have been very windy overnight, last night wasn't as bad as our first night a few years back but still windy enough for us to pull down the awning mid way thought the night. We packed up fairly quickly and managed to avoid most of the flies this morning and then we were on our way to Birdsville.

We stopped at Deon's Lookout for morning tea and enjoyed the stunning views from the elevated vantage point. The Birdsville Development road is in pretty good nick and we made good time into Birdsville just in time for a pie at the bakery for lunch.

Next stop was the caravan park where we organised an unpowered site right on the Billabong. The afternoon was spent doing some washing and general chores, I had to replace our inverter as the Aldi "special "I bought a few years ago finally died.  Later in the arvo we made our way to the Birdsville Hotel for a few beers in the Public Bar and dinner in the restaurant. We met a number of the ultra Marathon runners that are about to set off on the Big Red Bash Run which is a 250km race through the desert, I think they are crazy but it was impressive to hear about their preparation and the logistics involved in the run. Tomorrow we finally set off on our double crossing of the Simpson.

Distance Travelled - 262km.
