Simpson Desert - Day 3, Currawinya NP 19/06/2017
Last night was so quiet it was almost eerie, at times I woke up and the only thing I could here was my heart beating. This morning was a cool start and we didn't surface from the swag until almost 7.30. We still managed to catch the sun rising over the river and after our morning coffee I settled in to finish off some blog entries.
After breakfast we packed up and drove out to see Numalla and Wyara Lakes as they are apparently spectacular and are homes to lots of bird life. Unfortunately both lakes were bone dry despite recent rain and a fair bit of standing water on the access tracks. After a quick car park lunch we set off again and made our way to The Granites which are a set of granite boulders that kind of resemble the Devils Marbles, we were able to climb a few of the bigger ones and we were rewarded by spectacular views out of the plains.
From here we made our way to the Currawinya Woolshed and Bilby conservation information signage, both were very interesting. By now it was getting late in the day so we found a nice campsite right on the water at Ourimperee Waterhole, after a quick setup we had happy hour and a few drinks before settling in for the night.
Distance Travelled - 132km.
