Cape York - Day 7, Bramwell Junction to Dulhunty River 22/06/2018

After months of planning the day had finally arrived when we would start the OTT, Anna and I had been following a couple of Facebook groups dedicated to Cape York and we had seen the horror reports of Palm Creek and with the worst in mind we set off towards Palm Creek fully expecting to be turned around.

The original crossing of Palm Creek is full on and almost all vehicles need to winch out of the exit... After watching several vehicles bash there way through and winch out we decided this wasn't for us and we made our way to the "chicken" track. This option wasn't much easier and after watching a few others turn away we decided to give it a shot. Photo's don't do this place justice, its much steeper in person...

We met up with a solo traveller named Paul who didn't have a winch and we agreed to assist each other through. I was first and I'm glad to say that we successfully drove through and made the steep exit without using the winch.... After getting ready to snatch Paul out he successfully drove it too... After high fives and congratulations we continued on the OTT together to the next obstacle Ducie Creek which was a walk in the park compared to Palm Creek. Here we met Justin, Tash and their son Jordan and we agreed to all travel on together.

From here it was uneventful with a small crossing through North Alice Creek before we made it to the beautiful Dulhunty River and our camp for the next 2 nights. We said our goodbyes to Paul, Justin and Tash who agreed to keep travelling on together. Once we set up we spent most of the afternoon swimming in the river and soaking up the beautiful surrounds. We mostly had the place to ourselves and our fears of hoards of travellers have been eased... Just on dusk a large group of vehicles arrived but camped well away from us so it still felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Distance travelled = 30km
