Cape York - Day 16, Punsand Bay to Captain Billy's landing 01/07/2018

We got started early today as we were keen to move on from Punsand Bay and we had a few more sights to see before we crossed back over the Jardine. First up was the servo in Bamaga were we paid $2.02 a litre for diesel and then made our way to the wreck of the DC3 bomber, from here it was a short drive to another WW2 plane wreck this time a Beaufort Bomber.

We found some back tracks and made our way across to Mutee Heads and were instantly disappointed that we hadn't made time to camp here... Ah well next time... If you are heading this way make sure Mutee Heads is on your list of places to stay. Whilst in this area we found the last remaining WW2 Radar installation still standing in  Australia and had a good look around.

From here we were back onto the Bamaga Road and we arrived at the ferry at 11.30. The line up for the ferry on the south side was fairly long and I'm so glad we are heading south away from the chaos as the school holiday crowds ramp up. We had lunch on the side of the road and continued south and it wasn't long until we were at the turn off to Captain Billy's Landing, this was another pretty drive through sections of rain forest up and over the range and down to the coast. The drive is about 30km and takes just under an hour to complete. Over the last week or so the south east winds have really picked up and we timed our visit to the east coast well with really strong winds... We tried our best to tuck away in the corner but we couldn't escape the winds. This is a beautiful spot and I'm glad we visited here even if the weather was average.

Distance travelled = 252km
