Cape York - Day 4, Wonga Beach to Lions Den Hotel (CREB Track) 19/06/2018

Today was the day… The weather gods had smiled on us and the CREB track was dry and the forecast for today was fine….

The CREB track was open and we could attempt it, after packing up camp we made the short 30km drive to the start of the CREB track and our first obstacle... The Daintree River crossing... I aired down and selected low 4 and was about to cross when another 4wd turned up on the opposite bank which was perfect as I let him cross first so I could assess the depth and check out his line...

Apparently Anna wasn't willing to walk this crossing due to one of the oldies telling her the previous night that there is a croc every 150m in the Daintree River. Now it was our turn and the river crossing went very smoothly and would turn out to be much easier than I expected. From here we started the climb up along the track, its clay almost all the way and despite it being steep and rutted we had no problems and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and ticking off another track from our 4wd track bucket list. I can see why they close this track after light showers it would be a nightmare in the wet and I wouldn't recommend towing even in the dry...

By mid afternoon we had arrived at the Lions Den hotel were we made ourselves comfortable at the bar for a few drinks before setting up camp and then returning to the bar for a few more drinks and a pizza dinner.

Distance travelled = 123km
