Painted Desert - Day 17, 25/04/2016

We had the alarm set for 5.30 this morning to make sure we were up in time for the Anzac Day dawn service put on by Paul and Katie who manage the Arckaringa station. They did a great job and it’s a service we will remember for a long time. Katie read a poem called "Anzac on the Wall" which is a beautiful poem I'd recommend you have a read (click here if interested). After the service we were invited back to the homestead for a coffee and some Anzac biscuits which were delicious. Anna cooked up a nice breakfast of bacon, eggs and hash browns and after we cleaned up it was school work time.

We relaxed around camp for most of the day, just after 3pm we drove back to the Arckaringa Hills and walked the short circuit to the top to take in the views. We then continued on down the road a little further to the lookout and waited for sunset with a few drinks and nibbles, just before sunrise we were joined by a 4wd drive club for retirees and I think thy said the clubs name was the "Idlers". We had a good time chatting with them and they were a well traveled bunch and provided us with heaps of information on some of our upcoming destinations. Later that night we joined them round the communal fire pit for a few more drinks and stories.
