Kings Canyon - Day 29, 7/5/2016

Rain, rain and more rain was what we got today, the sealed road out of Kings Canyon was closed for most of the morning and only opened just after lunch. We had planned to stay 2 nights to allow us to complete all of the walks today, unfortunately National Parks had closed all of the walks for most of the day.

Around 3pm we decided to go and see if the National Park was open and to our surprise it was. We couldn't do the shorter creek walk as the creek was flooded and cut off the walking track but the rain did ease enough for us to walk up to the top of the rim and view the canyon. It was a real pity we didn't have time to do the full rim walk and that the weather was against us but we did get to see a beautiful waterfall cascade down into the canyon.

The weather system is likely to hang around for a few more days and has really stuffed up our plans for the next week or so. From here we planned to continue along the Merennie Loop to see the rest of the West MacDonnells but that road is now closed and we will have to take the tar route back to Alice Springs. At this point I'm not sure if the Tanami Track is open or not, I suspect that its closed as the rain is pretty wide spread... If that is the case we will have to change our  plans to make sure we get to Broome by the 14th of May. Where we go next is very much going to be controlled by the weather and the road conditions, for now we will settle in for another night of rain and hope we can get out in the morning.
