Birdsville - Day 12, 20/04/2016

Today was very warm with a maximum of just under 40 degree's…. We didn't get a chance to see Pelican Point last time we were in Birdsville and with all the recent rain we thought it would be an ideal time. In true Guthrie Family adventure style we set off on our "stroll" just before 11am, Anna had obtained a mud map from somewhere and she determined that it would take us 10 or 15 mins to get there as it was just down the road.... Luckily we all took water bottles as it turned out to be a bit of a hike and we would soon find out that most sensible people drive out there... Anyway it was a nice walk albeit in very warm conditions and we got to enjoy the Billabong in all its very full glory.

After our walk we chilled out in camp trying our best to stay cool, at 4pm we jumped in the car and took the kids out to the Artesian bore head to show them where the drinking water comes from and how they cool it. Then it was out to Big Red via our usual camping spot on the Diamantina River which was in full flood thanks to rain further north. We had a great time up on top of Big Red had the place to ourselves until just before sunset when a 4wd tour bus arrived... After a few drinks and later arvo nibbles it was back to camp in the dark doing our best to avoid the cattle on the roads.

Distance Traveled = 76 km
Total distance traveled with camper = 23,200km
Total number of nights in the camper = 155
