Overland Australia

This camping trip was our first trip with Bron and Steve in their new camper and they got to choose the destination. Cobb and Co 9 Mile had been recommended to them by some of their friends and it turned out to be a great destination. We arrived late on Friday afternoon to find Bron and Steve all set up and after a quick look around we saw that we had the place pretty much to ourselves with one or two other groups spread out through the campgrounds. As we set up the kids went off to explore the camp ground, this place has loads of activities for the kids with wide open spaces to play ball games, flying foxes, playgrounds and a dam to swim in with body boards and canoes to use when the weather is warmer. We had great weather on this trip and as a result we didn’t bother putting our awning up again so our set up was really quick. Last weekend of the school holidays and we decided to head back to one of our favourite winter campsites, Poverty Creek on Bribie Island. We were on the road just before 4pm on Friday afternoon and after a short drive we had arrived at White Patch. After quickly airing down on the 4WD and Camper we started on the 7km sandy track into the camp ground. The recent rain had firmed the track up a bit and we had no trouble on the drive in. I was a little surprised to see so many campers as we drove in as its usually pretty quiet in winter but the combination of the last weekend of school holidays and beautiful weather must have given others the same idea as us…   We set up the camper as the sun set and soon had a fire going and quick dinner of Chicken Kebabs and fried rice. This trip was back over the border into NSW for a 2 night stay at the Sheep Station Creek camp ground in the Border Ranges National Park - http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/nationalparks/parkCamping.aspx?id=N0050 Our route took us south on the Mt Lindesay Highway through Beaudesert and we turned left off the highway just before Rathdowney via Running Creek and Lions Roads where we crossed over into NSW. The scenery via this route is spectacular and I had to concentrate on driving as the views were very distracting. This was our first trip to this part of the world and we left home at 5am to try and beat the long weekend crowds. I’m glad we did leave early as the allocated campsites are not really suited to camper trailers (despite the website claiming so). Friday was a day off from work and school for Anna and the kids due to the Maleny Show Day, so what better excuse for me to cash in some of my Flex time and take a day off too and go camping. After our first visit to Crows Nest in February we were keen to head back there again, this time we were joined by Andrea and her 2 children Jayda and Marcio. We hit the road mid morning on Friday and made our way up to crows nest via Kilcoy, Esk, and Hampton stopping in at Ravensbourne for a quick toilet break. By midday we had arrived at the campground and were set up just in time for a late lunch. After lunch we went for a quick walk with the kids down to Kauyoo Pool. Andrea cooked a very tasty pasta dish for dinner and after a quick clean up we all settled in around the campfire where we were soon joined by the local possum who didn't seem too worried about us and made himself at home around our campsite. Our last camping trip was back to one of our favourite spots in SE QLD Peach Trees in the Jimna State Forest. I took the day off on Friday and got the camper ready in the morning whilst I waited for Anna to finish work and for the girls to finish school. By 3.30 we were on the road and by 5.15 we had set up camp and had joined Anna’s parents Greg and Lenore and their friends John and Jan for an evening drink around the warm fire. On Saturday we woke to a cool morning (about 3 degrees) and by morning tea time Bron, Steve and Alana had arrived. Most of Saturday was spent sitting around enjoying the sun. Lily’s training wheels were removed from her bike and after a few tries she was riding by herself, she still has some improving to do but she is doing well. Greg and Lenore left after lunch and the rest of us settled in with a few drinks a stoked the fire up so we had plenty of coals for our roast dinner.
