Fraser Island - 30 August to 7 September

Image
Day 1 We woke up early and dragged the kids out of bed and we were in the car and on the road by 5am. After an uneventful drive up the Bruce Highway we arrived at Rainbow Beach just after 7am where we filled up with diesel and headed down to Inskip Point to catch the Manta Ray Barge across to Fraser. I aired down the tyres on the 4by (18psi front, 20 psi rear)and camper (16 psi)and locked it into 4WD. We rounded the corner and were  greeted by chaos bogged vehicles everywhere, there was a patch of 100 to 150 meters of soft sand that was proving to be a problem for some vehicles. Both sides of the track were blocked by a Bongo van and a Subaru. After a quick look and chatting to a few guys I decided to  air down some more (14 psi all round), we waited for the track to  clear. The stuck vehicles already had a number of helpers and they were soon out of the way. At this point it was our turn so into low range 2 nd gear with plenty of momentum and we were through with n...

Cobb and Co 9 Mile - 2nd to 4th of August

Image
This camping trip was our first trip with Bron and Steve in their new camper and they got to choose the destination. Cobb and Co 9 Mile had been recommended to them by some of their friends and it turned out to be a great destination. We arrived late on Friday afternoon to find Bron and Steve all set up and after a quick look around we saw that we had the place pretty much to ourselves with one or two other groups spread out through the campgrounds. As we set up the kids went off to explore the camp ground, this place has loads of activities for the kids with wide open spaces to play ball games, flying foxes, playgrounds and a dam to swim in with body boards and canoes to use when the weather is warmer. We had great weather on this trip and as a result we didn’t bother putting our awning up again so our set up was really quick. We settled into the evening with a few drinks and nibbles around the camp fire and this was followed up by Bron’s Chicken Enchilada Nachos which turned...

Poverty Creek, Bribie Island - July 5 - 7

Image
Last weekend of the school holidays and we decided to head back to one of our favourite winter campsites, Poverty Creek on Bribie Island. We were on the road just before 4pm on Friday afternoon and after a short drive we had arrived at White Patch. After quickly airing down on the 4WD and Camper we started on the 7km sandy track into the camp ground. The recent rain had firmed the track up a bit and we had no trouble on the drive in. I was a little surprised to see so many campers as we drove in as its usually pretty quiet in winter but the combination of the last weekend of school holidays and beautiful weather must have given others the same idea as us…   We set up the camper as the sun set and soon had a fire going and quick dinner of Chicken Kebabs and fried rice. After dinner the kids retired to the camper to watch a movie and Anna and I enjoyed a couple of drinks around the fire while listening to the footy on the radio. After a warm night we rose on Saturday morning...
