Jimna State Forest 18th and 19th July

This trip was another quick overnighter to one of our favourite destinations, we left home just after 9am on Saturday morning and travelled up through Kilcoy to Jimna. It was a beautiful day and the scenery on the way through the ranges to Jimna was spectacular. We arrived at the camp ground and found that there were a few other groups scattered around. The recent cool weather had probably scared most groups off and it was nice to have plenty of space to choose from.

We had recently purchased an action camera and I decided to try out some time lapse photography of us setting up the camper... After setting up it was lunch time, so we got the fire going and cooked up some burgers on the fire. It was a cool day so we kept the fire going through the afternoon and didn't stray too far from it. Just before dark we put the lamb in the camp oven and stoked up the fire as the temperature dropped. After a delicious roast dinner we sent the girls to bed and settled in with a couple of glasses of red by the fire whilst listening to the rugby union on the radio. Anna and I couldn't believe how cold it was getting and by 8pm the temperature gauge on our radio (not that accurate) read 2 degrees, it was cold. Soon after half time we gave up and retreated to our warm bed.

We woke to a freezing Sunday morning and none of us were game to leave the warmth of our beds until just before 8am, when we did we were surprised to still see frost on the ground. Anna got talking to our neighbours and they claimed that their thermometer was showing 0 at 8.30 last night. When we got home I checked the temperatures for Kingaroy which is a similar altitude and not too far west of Jimna and they had -3, I'm  not sure how cold it got at Jimna but it was bloody cold...

After breakfast around the fire we thawed out a bit and slowly packed up. At midday we set off for a 2.5 km walk along the Eugenia walking circuit which we had never been on before despite coming here for the last 8 years. It was a nice walk and we found a great little swimming hole which would be fantastic in summer. We had another awesome trip out together as a family even if we did freeze, we look forward to coming back to Jimna when its a bit warmer.

Trip Distance = 178km
Total distance travelled with camper = 17,432km
Total number of nights in the camper = 124
