Peach Trees Camp Ground, Jimna State Forest - 6th and 7th February

First trip of 2016 and we can’t believe that’s it’s been 2 months since our last trip in early December… Most of the readers of this blog would already know that this year we are departing on a 6 months trip through Central and Northern Australia, as a result we are flat out with our preparations. Unfortunately that doesn't leave much time for camping... We have 2 more local trips
planned before we leave on the big trip on Saturday the 8th of April.

We left home on Saturday morning in overcast and showery conditions and the rain was fairly constant all the way to Peach Tree’s camp ground in the Jimna State Forest. We were going to be joined by some of our friends on this trip but the forecast of occasional showers scared them all off… Once we arrived we discovered an almost empty  camp ground with only 2 other camp sites being used. After setting up in some very light drizzle we settled in with some morning tea. This was a very lazy trip for us and most of the time we chilled out around camp enjoying the quiet and watching the local animals who seemed to also be enjoying the quiet conditions.

We were fairly lucky with the weather and only had to hide under the cover of the awning on a few occasions, most of the time the showers ended by the time we moved our chairs. We all enjoyed a restful night’s sleep, there is something special about sleeping out in the bush and the fresh air.

On Sunday morning we were woken by the screeching of the local flock of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos – noisy buggers… We got up and had a nice big feed of bacon and eggs and slowly packed up. The canvas was a little damn and it didn't take long to dry out. Just after morning tea the clouds darkened and it looked like we might get some rain so rather than pack up a wet camper we quickly packed up and headed home. It was nice to get back to one of our favourite spots again, the camp grounds are very lush and green at the moment and having it almost to ourselves was fantastic. The weather was average but I’d rather be camping than sitting at home and tackling the never ending list of jobs that we need to get done.

Over the next couple of weeks I’ll post some more information on our trip and the last few modifications and we are making to the 4WD and the camper in readiness for the trip. Lots to organise but to say we are excited is an understatement….

Trip Distance = 178km
Total distance travelled with camper = 20,582km
Total number of nights in the camper = 141
