Blackdown Tablelands Day 1 - 19th September
Blackdown Tablelands National Park has been on our "to do" list for some time and the September School Holidays seemed like the perfect opportunity to get away for a week and explore the area. We left home on Saturday morning after fitting our new Stone Stomper stone guard which had arrived the night before just in time for the trip.
We had an uneventful run north on the Bruce Highway and it wasn't long before we turned off on to the much quieter Wide Bay Highway towards our lunch time stop in Gayndah. After a quick bite to eat and a play in the park for the kids we were back on the road. Our planned overnight stop was Cracow as we had heard the free stop in town was fantastic we wanted to stop in at the Hotel to see if Fred Brophy was in town.
We arrived in Cracow just after 3pm and after a quick lap of the town we found our camp-site for the night. Cracow is a tiny place and we were surprised that it had 2 free stops on offer, we choose the Cracow Heritage Centre as this one had hot showers. The site is kept in an immaculate state and offers power, flushing toilets and hot showers, its not huge but wasn't too busy when we arrived. There is a donation box at the camp ground and we were happy to donate a few dollars to make sure the site is kept open and clean. After setting up we walked across the road to the Cracow Hotel for a look around and a beer or 2. As it turns out Fred Brophy was in town and we had a good chat with him over a few beers. On the way back from the hotel there was a quick shower of rain to settle the dust with a few beautiful rainbows over town.
Cracow is a great little town and very reliant on travellers, if you are heading north and don't mind travelling the quieter back roads I'd highly recommend stopping in at Cracow for the night and having a few beers at the Hotel. Just one note there is no fuel available on this route between Munduberra and Theodore as we found out...
Trip Distance = 447km
Total distance travelled with camper = 18,307km
Total number of nights in the camper = 128
