Cobb & Co 9 Mile - 5th to 7th December
This trip was back to one of our favourite places Cobb & Co 9 Mile and on this trip we were joined by 4 other families (10 adults and 11 kids) for our annual Christmas Camping party/trip. We travelled up on Friday afternoon after taking the kids out of school a little early. Upon arriving we found Bron and Steve and Paul and Sharna who had taken the day off and arrived earlier in the day. After a quick set up we were able to relax and get into a few drinks with the others. At 4.30 the kids got to feed the baby animals which they thoroughly enjoyed. A little later in the evening Jason and Carrie and then Richard and Anne-Marie arrived and began their set-ups. Friday evening was largely uneventful with the adults chilling out with a few drinks as we watched the storms build up around us, the kids were off doing their own thing which was great and why we love Cobb and Co and all that it offers for the kids.
On Saturday morning we woke to more storms, we didn't get any rain over night but the rain started on Saturday morning and hung around all day. The rain cleared a bit around mid morning and we took the kids down to the billabong for a swim which they enjoyed. Today we had a big Christmas lunch of roast Pork and Lamb with salads which was really tasty unfortunately the weather meant we had to huddle under awnings to keep from getting wet. A colleague of mine had given me a recipe for "Moose Milk" which the boys and I made up (just over 6 litres worth), we weren't expecting much but it turned out to be really tasty - if you are interested let me know and I'll give you the details. Later in the afternoon we had enough of the rain and decided to play a bit of French cricket to work off the food and drink and run the kids ragged...
We woke to clearer skies on Sunday morning which was great as we needed the sun to dry out the campers and the tents. Just after morning tea it looked like it was going to rain so we packed our camper up which resulted in the weather clearing.... We took the kids back down to the billabong for another swim as the day had gotten quite warm before we said our good byes and headed home to unpack.
This was another fantastic trip away with great friends and it was nice to all get together and have a couple of days away with each other. This was our last trip for the year now that the silly season is upon us. Its been another great year of camping with a total of 18 trips including our big trip out to Birdsville, we look forward to more camping next year hopefully starting up again sometime after New Years.
Have a safe and very merry Christmas and New Years from all of us.
