Lumley Hill, Wivenhoe Dam - 25th and 26th October
This trip was a quick overnight stop back to the Lumley
Hill campground on Wivenhoe Dam, we left early on Saturday morning and arrived
at camp just before 10am. Anna’s parents Greg and Lenore arrived the night
before and after a quick hello we were into setting up the camper. It was a warm
day with strong breezes coming off the dam, but we were soon setup and enjoying
morning tea. Anna cooked up some homemade sausage rolls and for lunch which
were really yummy. After lunch we chilled around camp and enjoyed cooling off
in the dam. I took my kayak and I put 4 Redclaw traps out hoping to catch a
feed. Later in the afternoon the breeze died off and we enjoyed a warm night,
Anna and Lenore cooked a beautiful lamb roast for dinner and we enjoyed some
great company and a few drinks.
We woke to clear skies on Sunday morning but the breeze
had picked up quite a lot. I had to paddle out and retrieve the Redclaw pots
which was a bit of a challenge with the wind and the waves on the dam. Unfortunately
I lost one of the traps as the float had come loose and the other 3 pots were
empty. We had arranged a late checkout as today we had Anna’s extended family getting together for the annual Bischoff gathering.
By late morning everyone had arrived and we had a good time catching up,
sharing a meal and enjoying each other’s company. By mid afternoon everyone
started to head home and we started our pack up which was hot sweaty work. We
had one more swim to cool off and then hit the road arriving at home just
before dark.
