Yandilla - Australia Day Long Weekend 2014

For the Australia Day weekend we went back to one of our favourite private camp grounds – Yandilla Farm stay near Kilcoy. It had been well over a year since our last visit and Dave has done quite a lot of work to improve his driveway and crossing of the Kilcoy Creek to make it 2wd friendly. Not that it was ever an issue for us but it means some of our mates without 4wd and off-road campers can come here too.

We left home around 8.30 on Saturday morning and had an uneventful  drive up in the rain, we arrived just after 9.30 found our spot and set up in light drizzle. We did plan on camping out in the paddock away from the facilities but there was a large 4wd club set up out there and going by the frantic pointing and hand gestures of one of the old boys from the club we got the hint they didn’t want us too near them… No skin off our nose there were only 4 small groups in the actual camp ground and we found a spot in the corner a suitable distance away from the other groups.

Dave stopped by for a chat just after lunch and I mentioned that we’d like a fire and asked if he had another fire drum. Dave said he would have a look as he thought he had another one tucked away in the shed and if he did have one he’d drop it off. Later that evening he did drop off the fire drum and I could see that this was freshly built one that he had knocked together. This is why we love coming here, nothing is too much trouble for Dave and providing you do the right thing by him he’ll look after you. I’m glad we could have a fire as it was very nice sitting around it at night having a few drinks and Anna knocked up some Apple cinnamon and brown sugar jaffles which were awesome.

The weather was pretty ordinary on this visit with passing showers, but that didn’t seem to stop the kids from swimming in the creek and scrambling over the rocks. On Sunday morning we went for a bush walk along a track up behind the camp ground and found an awesome swimming hole that was deep and cool, we had such a good time that we came back on Monday just after lunch for another dip which cooled us off nicely after packing up the camper.

We had a fantastic time at Yandilla and have plans to return here soon.

Trip Distance = 116km
Total distance travelled with camper = 7925km
Total number of nights in the camper = 62
