Borumba Dam - 11th and 12th January

I’ve been a bit slack and it’s taken a little while for me to get organised and update our blog after the Christmas and New Year period… Anyway our first camping trip for 2014 was to the Borumba Dam Camping area on the 11th and 12th of January.

We left home around 8.30 and followed the Bruce Highway north to the Imbil exit and soon after leaving the highway and conducting what felt like a loop back down south we arrived at the campground. This was google maps suggested route and to me a more direct path would have been via Maleny and Kenilworth… Bron, Steve and Alana joined us on this trip and we met them at the office, after paying our fees we went in search of a suitable spot for the night. The camp ground was still quite full but we managed to find a spot that wasn’t too close to the other groups of campers.

After setting up we explored the area and took the kids down to the Little Yabba creek for a swim, the water here would have to be the coldest in southern QLD. The dam was formed by damming the Little Yabba creek and the swimming hole is downstream of the dam and fed by controlled release. I assume the water is so cold as it’s taken from the bottom of the dam wall?? Anyway it was freezing but that didn’t stop the crazy kids. We also found a rope swing and we were very surprised when the kids were keen on giving it ago, but only after the Dads showed them how to do it. This was heaps of fun for all the kids big and small… Saturday night was spent enjoying ourselves with a few drinks.

On Sunday morning we chilled out around camp and then went up to the Dam to have a look around watch the ski boats and the very cool dudes on the lookatmeskis (Jet Skis). We saw some very flash setups and felt a little out of place as we were one of the very few camps without a watercraft of some sort. Lunch time was fast approaching so we made our way back to camp for a quick pack up and another swim and several goes on the rope swing before leaving. We took the alternate route via Kenilworth and Maleny on the way home and this was our preferred route as it seemed quicker but was definitely more scenic.

Here are a few photos from the trip, we had a great time and will be coming back again.

Trip Distance = 204km
Total distance travelled with camper = 7809km
Total number of nights in the camper = 60
