Bunya Mountains - 14th to 16th of March

On Friday the 14th of March we picked the kids up from school and hit the road to Bunya Mountains and the Dandabah Campground. On this trip we were joined by Bron, Steve and Alana who had left earlier in the day and arrived before us to get a spot.  We had never been to this part of the world and only had the National Parks information to go off and we were a little worried when we found the camp ground. Its tiny and we were expecting to see a spot at least 3 times the size… Bron and Steve had found a spot and we squeezed in next to them, as we set up some very dark clouds rolled in and just as we finished setting up it bucketed down.

On Saturday morning we decided to tackle one of the walks through the forest, as we had the kids in tow we went on the “Scenic Circuit” loop which was a 4 km return walk starting from the campground. It was a really enjoyable walk with plenty to see and lots of information and things to keep the kids interested. On Saturday arvo we settled in around the camp and relaxed after the morning exercise. We watched as the camp ground filled up even more and we were soon surrounded on all sides by neighbours – Caravan park style (probably closer than some caravan parks).  For dinner Anna cooked up a beautiful lamb roast and vegies and once the kids were in bed the adults sat around enjoying a few more drinks.

Sunday morning greeted us with a foggy/misty start but that soon burned off and we had a beautiful warm day. Unfortunately we had to start packing up which we did throughout the morning whilst watching all of our neighbours disappear. By lunch we were all packed up and ready to start the 2.5 hour drive home. We had a good time and the area is very beautiful, the amenities supplied by National parks are some of the best we have ever seen in a national park with flushing toilets, hot showers and camp kitchens/wash up areas.  If we do come back it will have to be in a quieter part of the year as the camp ground is tiny and I didn't really enjoy camping on top of strangers, felt too much like a caravan park.

Trip Distance = 350km
Total distance travelled with camper = 8413km
Total number of nights in the camper = 64
