Boulmba Creek - 8th and 9th of February

We got away for another quick trip on the 8th and 9th of February, this time we headed out to Connondale National Park to Bolumba Creek camp ground number 4. We had previously been out this way on a day trip and decided that we would come here for a overnight stay as this trip we would be by ourselves and could go to a 4WD only camp ground. National Parks recommend high clearance 4WDs only due to a couple of small creek crossings on the way in to the camping area. The crossing were shallow on this visit and had a firm stony base, a decent amount of rain would change this though.

We arrived mid morning and selected a suitable site, the Bolumba Creek camp ground has 4  camping areas (1 is day use only now) with the first 3 being situated on the creek but only suitable for campers in tents… The 4th campground is the only one suitable for camper trailers and is an open grassy area on a bit of a slope, lucky we had stopped by Aldi on the way up and bought a levelling ramp which came in handy. After setting up we took the kids down the waterhole for a quick look around a bit of a swim, the water here was beautiful and clear and we all enjoyed cooling off.

After lunch we drove up the hill to check out Bolumba Falls which is a 3 km return walk from the car park. It was a nice walk and both the girls completed the walk without too much winging, apart from Erin freaking out twice when she was bitten by two leaches – they didn’t bother the rest of us. Once back at camp I got the fire going and we had a delicious lamb roast dinner, a couple of drinks after dinner around the fire then off to bed.

On Sunday morning we were greeted by overcast conditions and by 8am very light annoying drizzle settled in, we decided that we would try and wait it out and hopefully pack up a dry camper… Unfortunately the longer we waited the heavier the rain got so we packed up in the rain and spent the afternoon drying the camper out. Apart from the rain on Sunday morning we had another great trip away.

Trip Distance = 138km
Total distance travelled with camper = 8063km
Total number of nights in the camper = 62
