Crows Nest Nartional Park - 15th to 17th February

We finally got out to do some camping again, our last planned trip on the Australia Day weekend was washed out courtesy of ex tropical cyclone Oswald and I'm really glad we didn't try and brave the elements that weekend...

Due to the extensive flooding caused by Oswald most of the National Parks are still closed due to damage to roads and bridges. So we decided to go a little further a field and try somewhere new and we made our way out to the Crows Nest National Park on Friday afternoon. We left home and headed west via Woodford, Kilcoy, Esk, Hampton and finally made it to Crows Nest National Park around 5pm to a darkening sky.

Half way through our step up our friends Bronwyn and Steve and their daughter arrived after traveling up the alternative route via Blackbutt and Yaraman. We were soon all set up and enjoying our first drinks and dinner and then a few more drinks around the fire.

On Saturday morning we all set off to explore the surrounds and we completed the walk to Kauyoo Pool and we all enjoyed the spectacular views. The big kids (the Dads) and the little kids had a ball scrambling over the rocks and climbing up the rock walls to get a better view of the 2 small waterfalls as well as splashing in the water.

Just before lunch we were joined by another one of our friends Annette and her daughter and we all enjoyed a healthy lunch of scones with cream and jam thanks to Anna and the Neo Buddy BBQ. After lunch we all set out again and walked out to the Crows Nest Falls and then onto Koonin Lookout for more stunning views.

After the walks it was back to the campground for afternoon tea and time to get the Donkey Boiler going so we could all have a nice hot shower. After a nice relaxing shower we got dinner underway and enjoyed some more beverages, soon the kids were off to sleep and the adults weren't far behind.

On Sunday morning we had a big breakfast of bacon, eggs and pancakes and started packing up and then we all trundled back to Kauyoo Pool so the kids could have a quick dip before heading for home.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the place has a really nice feel to it and the surrounds are beautiful with a nice mix of walks to give you something to do. The campground facilities are good with non potable water, the donkey boiler to heat water for the canvas showers and eco toilets. We are already planning our next trip back here.

I forgot to charge and bring the camera (again) so the only pictures I have are from my phone...

Our next camping trip will be in a fortnights time when we head out to Booloumba Creek in the Conondale National Park.

Trip distance = 349km
Total distance travelled with camper = 4091km
Total number of nights = 28
